Dbank is a network-ready, tree-structured, graphical filing system for
time-series and cross-sectional data that runs under Microsoft Windows. In
addition to providing numerous commands for managing, editing, manipulating,
viewing and plotting such data, Dbank allows you to export the data to many
statistical packages and spreadsheet programs.  As such, it can be described
as an operating system for time-series and cross-sectional data.

To install Dbank, invoke Windows 3.1 and then type "ALT+F+R", followed by
"C:\TMP\SETUP.EXE" to run Dbank's SETUP program.  Note that the last step
assumes you exploded dbankwin.exe in the directory C:\TMP.  If not, replace
C:\TMP with the appropriate drive::path.

Dbank stores data efficiently and retrieves them quickly.  Dbank might be
useful to people who keep the same data in different formats because they
routinely use more than one statistical/spreadsheet package to analyze their
data; and it is likely to be useful to institutions/corporations with large
databases that need to be shared with many users who use different and
incompatible data formats.

Provided you have Windows 3.1 or higher and Windows is NOT already loaded,
you can start Dbank from the DOS prompt by typing: dbank

To run Dbank successfully, you must load SHARE.EXE BEFORE you start Windows
(unless you had installed programs like Word for Windows 6 or are using 
Windows for Workgroups 3.11 which caused VSHARE.386 to be loaded everytime 
you start Windows in enhanced mode).  If your DOS directory is in your DOS 
path, you can do this by typing:

	    SHARE /L:500

at the DOS prompt.

DBANKDOC.PS within DBANKWIN.EXE is a PostScript file containing the manual.
It can be copied directly to a PostScript printer without further processing
(e.g., type:  copy c:\dbank\dbankdoc.ps lpt1 /b).  Warning: the manual is
50 pages long!

FLYER.PS within DBANKWIN.EXE is a PostScript file containing a one-page
description of Dbank and most of its important features.  It can also be
copied directly to a PostScript printer without further processing.
(e.g., type:  copy c:\dbank\flyer.ps lpt1 /b).

All the files in the original dbankwin.exe[.zip] directory can be erased.
